“I can’t believe how much this place has changed. It has gone from being a grubby and very run down place, which was really busy only on Chelsea match days, when the hard core Chelsea fans would go for a piss up prior to matches, to being a niche place, very beautiful décor and amazing cocktails. There is even a big canoe hanging from the hut roof……definitely recommend it….”

The Penny Black Restaurant & Bar, Chelsea (Bar / Restaurant)
“Make no mistake, this place is a great restaurant. No ifs, not buts. In truth the Penny Black was not what I was expecting when I walked through its dark coloured doors. It is neither spit and sawdust nor is it glitzy or glamorous. It is actually rather cool in a modern, discreet, warm style that grows on me as I sit and cast my eye around some modern art. Crisp white linen, weighty cutlery and beautifully shaped glassware helps to convey that this is a serious place, but the easy smiles and graceful yet confident manner of the staff suggest a more laid-back atmosphere. The service was very very good. Although noticeably young as a team, it was evident that our waiter was very well trained and made some excellent wine suggestions to go with our food choices of scallops, pork belly, the obligatory beef wellington and a curious monkfish and beetroot combination. The food was very well-judged on the whole, with robust yet balanced seasoning and an obviously loving attention to the cooking. Scallops with horseradish and black pudding were squishy and tender, perfectly cooked just to the point of tipping from under to just right. Wellington was every bit as good as I had been told it was by friends who had already visited. However I was completely blown away by the pork belly, so much so that I asked to see the chef to find out how the meat was so tender and flavoursome on the bottom, yet roasted to crispy perfection on the top. I have promised not to divulge the exact details, but I can report the liberal use of cider and a roasting technique that is inspired. The rest of the evening melds into one long experience of intimate conversation, flirty touches over an obnoxiously good strawberry shortcake, playful swirling of dessert wine and a late acknowledgement that we never noticed the waiter, despite our glasses always being full and the table clean. My daze was rudely awoken by the extraordinary hand drier in the washroom which was so loud and powerful that it positively shocked me. My umbrella was also mistakenly given out to another customer and I was left with a similar black number, only to find that it inverts with alarming ease and would have been more practical if it had a hole in it instead. Nevertheless, I left feeling overwhelmingly sated, happy in the knowledge that British food is in the seemingly safe hands of a young, talented team at the Penny Black. Oh, that curious monkfish and beetroot combination - much much better than it sounds and I'm having to myself next time.”

Curry Place, Notting Hill (Restaurant)
“Eating at this restaurant was an absolutely dreadful experience. We were just looking for our first bite of good Indian food in more than a week, during our holiday to London and came upon this place. We were gestured to come into the restaurant by a waiter, who then stomped off when we told him we would like to go through the menu first. We didn't  make much of that. We found the same chap standing at our table to take our order. This time his demeanour was somewhat pleasant but we quickly noticed that all he was trying to do was to recommend the most expensive stuff on the menu to us and strongly suggesting we order more than we wanted to. Us not doing that clearly didn't go down well with him because what followed after that was atrocious service. We were not given water even after asking for some (on the contrary he removed the empty glasses from our table) and then given some only after asking for it again. The plates as well as the food were plonked down on our table with a thud by the same guy and our questions met with monosyllabic responses. We did notice however that he was being very pleasant with the other non-Indian guests who we can only presume were trusting his incorrect recommendations. The food was extremely spicy even for our Indian palette and not great. This was definitely NOT the good Indian food we were hoping for. We asked to speak to the manager and were told there was no such person! We finally did speak to someone and complained about the shoddy service meted out to us who said he would speak to the waiter concerned. On our way out we passed our 'cheerful' waiter from whom we had now come to expect no courtesy from whatsoever. Sure enough there was no 'thank you' or even a hint of a smile from him. This gave us a sense that our feedback was cast aside so we directly told him that we thought his service and attitude needed work. He quickly ushered us out of the restaurant so that we guess none of the other guests could catch on as to what the problem was and then vehemently denied any sort of wrong doing on his part.  We said that if he was not willing to take any feedback then there was no point in giving it and walked away only for him to shout back at us to 'learn how to order' when we go to an Indian restaurant. On asking him whether he was from India he said he would never want to be from India and was from another country. We could only look in amazement at this delusional chap who did not want to have anything to do with India, working in an Indian restaurant and telling Indians how to order Indian food!”

“Wine & Bread is a lovely restaurant to visit in any season of the year. This restaurant was made for you to relax and have a nice time. Friendly, family atmosphere gives you a real feel of positive feelings so you can just take all the stress of your shoulders, sit back and enjoy your meal or just a very nice glass of vine. I have always recived absolutely fantastic service and lovely dishes. I am gluten intolerant so it's not easy for me to find a place where they understand my diet. Wine & Bread has been always very helpful in choosing suitable menu for me which always created a big smile on my face. I love good food and nice people with a real heart and passion for what they are doing. If you like the same than you know where to go:)!”

Chuzzlewits, Whitechapel & Wapping (Restaurant)
“Hard to find but well worth the effort, Chuzzlewits is a modern European restaurant with a delicious, varied menu and ever-changing specials. The food is excellent and really good value for money, and it's all made on the premises, even the delicious desserts! Staff are friendly, helpful & welcoming and every time I go it's a pleasure. Downside - only open Monday - Friday daytimes because they cater primarily for office workers. However, they are open for lunches and late lunches, and also breakfast as they are open from 7am. GO THERE!”

“If you think clubbing is great, wait until you try out the London Sky Bar. It takes clubbing to a whole new level. Making reservations is key, although they will accommodate you should you forget to pick up the phone. My friend, Sheila, decided following dinner that we'd go to the sky bar for her birthday along with her other six friends. Champagne and spirits flow all over the place. It is cool. She opted for a private room for a private celebration and the service we received was top notch and impeccable. I can't thank them enough for the good time I had for my friend's birthday.”

“Welcome was warm on arrival and myself and my friend were able to choose a table for 2 by the window, despite the fact that this is a small but cosy restaurant. The restaurant appears to be family-run and the food we were served was excellent and well balanced spices. We had the house special, a Medium flavoured Chicken Tikka Dish which was washed down with a bottle of refreshing rose! Recommended.”

RS Lounge, Woodford & Chingford (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Went there Friday gone. Place looked amazing, bar staff friendly. Security was ill mannered …£20 pounds to get in for men, rip off. Not a west end club!!! Was promised that seven celebrities will be attending the venue , waited tell closing time , no one had arrived. The promoters lied to us! Dance floor empty , less them 150 people in the massive club, nobody dancing. DJ running late – around 1, rubbish, ,no rnb , no house ,pop, just hard core rapping. We were forced to leave the massive garden as the rude security man was saying that only 20 people were allowed at a time………..waited 30 mins to go in the garden for a fresh air, everyone was timed! People were getting cranky for fresh air and a smoke. They only forced people back in the club because the dance floor was looking empty. To keep up their appearance. Didn’t have a good night at all, had a terrible experience , will not be coming back even if they were giving free drinks all night.”

“After a 2 minute walk from Tower Hill tube, my girlfriends and I arrived at Proud Cabaret. We are all regular cabaret goers and found that this was our favourite venue yet! We annoyingly had to leave before the vintage band and DJ started to get to another club that my friend and booked us a table at. Next time i would like to stay for the whole night, it was really kicking off as we left and it seemed a natural transition from the show to dancing which is my idea of the perfect night!”

“I had such a lovely time at Proud. I went there for drinks with my friends after work so didn't have a table book. After we got their though, we changed our minds and the staff were very accommodating and sat us at a table. The best decision ever made, the food was so good and entertainment was amazing, it was unique and certainly something you cant find anywhere else in London. I ll be back soon, and of course with a booked table”

“My partner has mentioned trying this Shoreditch boozer after work for a while now, so we thought it was about time to take a closer look at what we had seen through the window after cycling past. Tuesday, 6:30pm and the bar was bustling with drinkers and diners alike, a solid choice of well looked after draft beers (Star, Becks, Hoegarrden to name a few) and some cracking real ale (Thanks to the barman for letting me try them all!) kept us occupied until the food arrived. No bought in/reheated food here; my lamb steak was juicy, well cooked and served with the care and attention the cut of meat deserved. My partner ordered pork belly from the bar menu; which was crispy and accompanied with a tasty bean stew. No room for deserts but the atmosphere and friendly staff kept us in for a glass of well sourced malbec before we pedalled off into the damp roads of Shoreditch. Looking for the toilets (there in the basement btw) I had a sneaky look at the upstairs dining room and will most certainly be coming back! Food 8/10 Atmosphere 8/10 (bar) Value for money 9/10”
