We stopped in London for a day enroute from the U.S. to Spain while starting on our 25th wedding anniversary trip. We had an afternoon and evening to spare so we took the tube to Covent Garden walked... More

Stamfords Wine Bar & Restaurant, South Bank & Bankside (Bar)
“I think Stamford’s wine bar and restaurant is the friendliest place in London. The staff were more than welcoming. The food was fantastic (great value for money) and the wine list is exquisite. Would recommend anyone to visit Stamford to see for themselves.”

“Absolutely stunning interior! Almost awe inspiring! Went to see the channel 4 album chart show being filmed. Venue wise was very impressed (being a dj my self i was impressed with the level of service for such a busy night)security are strict but polite. And genral venue organisation was excellent! Unfourtunately felt let down by the show, but that had nothing to do with the venue itself (my only grunt had to be the fact i paid £4.40 for two small orange juice's that were poured from a carton that cost about 80p for the entire thing, but i'm also a bar manager so i'm a bit picky about such thing's!)”

The Red Lion, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant)
“I went for an Saturday afternoon drink here at the weekend, and my friends and I enjoyed the place so much we ate dinner there and stayed until closing time.
The range of beers was varied, and the service was excellent. We ordered our food and the quality was superb and deserved its price tag. There wasn't table service which was a pity, but we will definitely be back and hope to make going there a regular thing. Well done Red Lion!”

“Service is always incredibly slow, and food average at best. Waited almost 20 minutes for a cup of tea today and after many disappointing visits, I'll be looking for somewhere else to eat brunch.”

Mandarin Bar, Knightsbridge (Bar / Restaurant)
“I have no idea where the bar at the Mandarin Oriental in London gets its good reputation. I would describe the decor as an amusing cliche. I was particularly tickled by the uplighting of the ashtrays on the bar. What better way to whet the appetite for a cocktail than to be blinded by the halo around old cigarette ash? The bar is noisy and the live jazz is insulted by terrible acoustics. This room does not lend itself to live music, no matter how talented the musicians. The bar staff themselves are courteous and hardworking but there are not enough of them. I wouldn't expect to have to wait such a tedious amount of time to be served in the swankiest of London's bars, let alone a tiny, soulless and smoke-filled den such as this.
The doormen and management have no understanding of the basics of customer service. They are unable to resolve the simplest of complaints from the customers. In fact they appear to deliberately escalate the smallest of issues into a public circus. They are equally contemptuous of hotel residents and non-residents alike.
The hotel and the bar love to brag about their popularity with celebrities, however, this seems to be a delusion of grandeur. Seemingly unable to grasp the simplest principles of hospitality, I doubt that any celebrity who truly valued their own reputation would be desperate enough to be seen here.”

The White Horse, Brixton (Bar)
“What a place for a top, top night out. The DJ's are superb, the atmosphere is all you'd ever want, and drinks are good value - they know how to make a cracking cocktail. The food is fantastic and such brilliant value - the perfect place for a lazy Sunday roast. Atmosphere is rocking at night, and chilled during the day. Why can't more places strike this perfect balance?”

Feng Shang Princess, Swiss Cottage & Primrose Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“It goes without saying that the food was delicious, the service was charming, attentive and discreet, the setting was beautiful and Feng Shang's management of the tables, seating and place cards worked very well for us.
The efficient way that individual dishes were prepared and served to the guests with special dietary needs was impressive, and I am sure they were pleased with what they were offered.
Feng Shang took a lot of trouble for us and we shall look forward to more visits to the restaurant in the future. Many thanks again.”

The Cloisters, Chelsea (Bar)
“What an excellent little bar. It's hard to find which is no bad thing in that area. The cocktails were excellent and the manager was a really excellent guy that looked after us far more than he had to. I loved the fancy fingerprint door opening system, it made me feel like James Bond. Getting an email from them once a week a great idea. Good atmosphere too, no morons in sight. Loved it! Will definitely go back there.”

Vinifera, Clapham (Bar)
“Marvellous.
The non-smoking policy is a real boon. Very knowledgeable but friendly and helpful staff. A great fun way to explore more interesting wine in a not too pretentious atmosphere. Oh, also very special food from the bar.
Vinifera is a must for any budding or established gastronauts.”

Cafe Koha, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“I have been eating at CAFE KOHA for at least six years. In the past i concidered it one of the nicest, and intimate places to eat in central london, top of my recommendation list. On a recent visit, to my horror i discovered that the Cafe has been extended, the walls painted yellow and all of its charm lost. The food was still up to its excellent standard but the serving staff seemed to be stretched by the extra tables, as was the kitchen. It is such a shame to see a previously reliable and very special place to eat changed into a something that appears more like a 'pasta house' type chain cafe. I have not been back, sorry Koha, thanks for the memories.”

The Cloisters, Chelsea (Bar)
“I signed up for free membership at this bar last week and received a free Mojito-one of the best Mojitos i have had in a long time! The atmosphere was great, the bar staff were all very friendly, helpful and seemed to make sure that every person in the bar was taken care of. Now I will tell u the coolest thing about this place-they have a thumbprint scanner on the door which only lets you in if you are member. James Bond stuff or what! When you place your thumb on the door outside it lets you in and also tells the barman on a screen behind the bar your full name and your favourite drink. ”

Grand Union Camden, Camden (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“We'd reserved an area for up to 10-15 people but were given an area for 6! The management were rude, aggressive and unsympathic to our requested and agreed requirements. If they couldn't accommodate us, then why did they take our booking?”
