The Cross Goods Way Depot, off York Way, Kings Cross, London, N1 0BB (Map)

Great music in every room with a good atmosphere and visually very funky set up with 4 rooms and an outdoor one. The problem is that the middle of every dance floor is a walkway to the next room and it's... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

Bedlam, Hampstead (Bar)
“Enjoyed a fantastic Saturday night. This bar was so different with the neon light and 3D paintings on the walls. Although it was very small the service and food was perfect. They also provided entertainment, a pianist who was very enjoyable to listen to. Great Cocktails aswell.”

The Drayton Arms, Kensington (Bar)
“I worked as a barman in the Drayton in 1986. There was a wall separating the 2 bars (gone now), and the locals still talked about how Princess Diana used to come in with her girlfriends on Friday nights and get sloshed (before she was married, obviously; she lived just down the road). Upstairs was (and still is) the Webber-Douglas acting school where Terrence Stamp among others, studied. Bowie and Jagger popped in for a drink during a break while filming the Dancing in the Streets video, Rod Stewart lived in The Boltons, so he came in a couple of times. Freddie Mercury and Tina Turner lived nearby too and were occasionally seen. Clientele comprised an interesting mix of rich South Ken types, scruffy builders, and long-time locals. I went back last month (May 2004) and found the Drayton dramatically changed. There is mishmash of furniture which looks like it came from a charity shop, the wall separating the bars is gone, and there is zilch atmosphere anymore. The gin palace exterior is still the same, but it looks like the crowds have moved on - I was there for two hours one lunchtime and there were five customers besides me. I had a couple of beers, which were good, but skipped the food. The Irish barman (manager?) was nice.”

Inc Bar, Greenwich (Bar / Restaurant)
“Inc is a great venue and personally i'm suprised by the low rating. There has however been a rapid transformation in the past few months (due to a change in management). Certainly worth a visit, especially if you (like me)weren't impressed on first visiting Inc”

The Avenue, Ealing (Bar)
“Read all good reviews about this bar on Fluid Foundation , so had too check it out myself. Great decor , relaxed cool atmosphere. Great starting point for a night out or just a chilled drinks with friends. The doors were fully opened onto the pavement giving that european bar feeling on a sunny evening. Though had to wait to be served at bar for some time as only one bar tender serving on a Friday night.Well recommend this bar too everyone I know. Happy Drinking !”

Claridges Bar, Mayfair (Bar / Hotel)
“In my eyes Claridges is the only hotel in London because of its prestige and tradition. admitedly it is quite pricy but at the end of the day you pay for what you get and you are paying for the service and the name, just like everything else. Claridges is a must do for everyone and it is worth every penny. The other reviews on this page of people putting claridges down are only jelous of what they can't afford to do often.”

Club 414, Brixton (Bar)
“A small but perfectly formed club, except for the stair case, which I lovingly renamed, 'The stairts of death and destruction'. Apart from that it's a great place, though the girl on the door need's a lobotomy so she can smile once in a while. Really she does!.”

The Bridge Tavern, Hampstead (Bar)
“ex old irish boozer which appears to have been taken over by some australians if the photos of sydney harbour bridge are anything to go by. food was amazingly great at non-gastro prices and the locals appear not to have deserted it even though it has had a massive refurb.”

The Rocket, Acton (Bar / Restaurant)
“I totally disagree with those sour reviews - it's great (especially when put into context with what else Acton has to offer). Good wine selection, by the glass, enough on draught to keep even my Dad happy! The food is amazing and the staff are really, really friendly - what's not to like? The biggest bonus for me is that there's not an Antipodian flag in site - perhaps this is why some people don't like it?”

“Lovely pub inside and out. Staff were friendly enough and it's very pleasant having a pint in the sunshine while watching the river and life go by. However I got charged £6.80 for two pints. Not sure if this was a mistake but I was in such shock I paid. Didn't sink in until later.”

Barrio Cocktail Bar & Cafe, Battersea (Bar)
“I love this bar. It's welcoming, it's stylish, it's relaxed and it's flexible. We go on a Sunday afternoon to read the paper and have coffee, we go with a big group of mates to get drunk on the fantastic range of cocktails and beers and we go for a quick pint just before closing time for a chat with the staff. I even class the bar staff as good fiends of mine now! I don't know why I'm writing this review because I want Barrio all to myself!”

The Duke of Cambridge, Angel & Islington (Bar / Restaurant)
“Went for the 'Third best Sunday lunch in town' and I was totally disappointed. The staff were miserable and rude and the food was pretty dire too. There was only one traditional Sunday lunch, chicken, which in my and my partners opinion was tough and tasteless and at £15 a plate wasn't a decent price either. All in all we felt we wouldn't revisit...”

Jerusalem, Fitzrovia (Bar / Restaurant)
“What started out as a fairly decent evening turned to an awful experience as the bar closed. One of the bar staff abused a friend of mine, visiting from o/s, who had been waiting patiently to be served. Not realising that lights on meant drink up, she was appalled to be sworn at and made to feel incredibly embarassed in front of my friends on her first night in London. This is the kind of treatment we have all come to expect in rowdy drinking holes - not in a venue where the clientele is full of young professionals who go there to steer clear of troublemakers - and who are prepared to pay exorbitant prices for their drinks in order to do so. The bouncer was most friendly and apologised to us, but the damage was already done. I will never go there again - the attitude of the bar staff was nothing short of disgraceful. I would have given zero stars but it wasnt possible on the system!”

“Ever since I found out about this place I have been willing to go there. So I did, and I must say it was absolutely wonderful. Large salad buffet to choose from (complete with rice, chips, croquettes, different sauces...), all carefully presented. Many kinds of meat, grilled in the centre of the restaurant and delivered to your table, no waiting times, have as much as you want, what you want, when you want. Very friendly service. All in all a top Brazilian atmosphere. A must for people with a love for Brazil and highly recommendable for everyone. Muito obrigado!”

“This is a really wonderful place to visit and it gets better every time you go. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, drink is cheap and the musicians who perform are amongst the best names in Irish music.”
