Mission, Fulham (Bar / Restaurant)
“The standard of the Mission food, cocktails, wines, service and ambience is first class. Since our first visit we have returned several times, and have yet to be disappointed, The menu offers something for everyone's taste, and so far everything we have tried came up trumphs. They also serve great cocktails that you can have at the bar prior to eating, or have at your table. You can also choose from the extensive list of starters if wanting to share. Tiger prawns, squid & mussels with tamarind & garlic herb salad and the chargrilled strips of ribeye beef were two we tried. The Mossamman curry was best we've had and the paad thai noodles as good as you would get in Thailand. Friends had steak and a burger which they raved about. Decor, music and atmosphere very inviting. Service very professional. We think they deserve this praise. It's rare to find somewhere so good that you can actually tick all the boxes. Mission is a real gem of a place, that is hightly recommended.”

“The previous reviewers were correct - this place had so much potential. Well I am pleased to say, as a local of the area, that it looks like fulfilling it now. The new management know what they are doing all right - amazing food, good beer, wicked wine selection, newly decorated which looks great and, come summer, a beautiful garden. Great news for Islington.”

“I wish I could find a single redeeming feature when it comes to describing The Hide, alas, my experience of lunching there was so appealling that The Hide now ranks as my worst London restaurant experience in years. Where do we start? Surely with the food, which, if certainly not overpriced on paper, undoubtedly is when one is presented with the joke that gets /microwaved/defrosted/cooked up in the kitchen. The tapas-style appetizers were at best mediocre at worst completely failed: prawns were rubbery and served with a sauce which just could not be considered spicy - it was pure, tastebud-annihilating chilli. The chorizo in cider was not only uninmaginative, it was also more animal fat than meat - and where was the cider? That was all before I got served what came as the dire crowning of my lunch, the Spanish tortilla - a burned, dry piece of suspicious-looking omelette, which I assumed had been warmed up from a few days prior to ending up in my plate. It came with the driest and blandest manchego I've ever had this side of Madrid. I mean, c'mon, it's not like it's easy to mess up a tortilla, right?! Who in London supplies these guys the supposed Spanish basics that form the basis of their tapas offering?! Fire the supplier, now! Onto the service now. They absolutely and unashamedly could not be bothered. The menus were left on our busy table, and when put down on the floor, for sheer lack of space, stayed down there until we left - and that was in spite of the waitress pas”

“It may all be painted black rather than white but otherwise it is identical to Tantra in every way, right down to the insulting, power happy security staff. Very over priced for what it is and completely souless. I would never wish to go there again, even with a very large group of friends, as it seems to be pretty empty even on nights that are billed as being very busy!”

Gazette Brasserie, Battersea (Bar / Restaurant)
“Gazette is the best restaurant I have been to for a very very long time. I visited twice already and both times I had a great meal. The chef is very creative and the food fresh. The menu is really fun because it looks like a newspaper with a huge wine list, I haven’t counted but these guys are nuts, I stopped at 160 something, plus they have a lot of wine by the glass and carafe. Gazette do the all day thing with what seems a very good breakfast. The upstairs room has a private room and a wine cellar you can actually visit. Prices are very reasonable and the staff great. Love it, love it, love it.”

“I went here for my birthday last week. I booked a booth in advance and that definitely made a difference as the bar was packed. Having said that, there was a great crowd in there and the table service was excellent. There were a couple of stroppy bar staff but they were avoided and didn't ruin the mood of the night. And of course, the bar lives up to it's name - great cocktails of all varieties but the apple martini is a must.”

“For 3 of 6 nights in Dec 2001 after 9/11 we stayed in Mayfair... best restaurant one can imagine... good value... can't wait to leave Memphis, TN for our next visit in May, 2007... when you save a bistro card for 5 years, it has to be good!”

Paradiso e Inferno, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“I had dinner there with a friend on Saturday. Absolutely the most appalling "Italian" restaurant i've ever eaten in. The Bresaola was no better than Sainsbury's or Tesco, infact they are probably better. Our spaghetti pomodoros were absolutely tasteless and lightly covered in a tomato sauce that was probably out of a tin. And the service was so bad we waited around 15 minutes after sitting down just to order (the restaurant was empty) at which point we were greeted rudely and with no interest whatsoever from the waiter. Awful experience, never to be repeated.”

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK), City of London (Restaurant)
“Not our first time at GBK, but our first time at St Paul's branch. It is much bigger than the ones we have been to, but the service and food were still fantastic. It is still one of the best relatively cheap meals to be had in London. We found St Paul's more comfortable due to the space, but the food is the same everywhere. The burgers are always brilliant, but it's the THICK cut chips and the garlic dip sauce that completes the meal... If you've never had a GBK burger, you've never had a real burger....”
