Red Rooms 4 Great Queen Street, Covent Garden, Holborn, London, WC2B 5DG (Map)

Visited The Red Rooms a few Saturdays ago and had a good night so I thought I'd check out the Friday. Turned out they had a High St. Honey model hosting a table that night which made for a great party.... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Nice enough pub, with a decent outside seating area in the summer and good locals. The downside is the complete lack of barstaff which means you should expect to wait 10-15 mins to get served. When you do finally get served it's as if they are doing you a favour by pouring you a drink. So a bit like a lot of central London bars. If you don't like waiting ages to be served, try The Lodge or O'Neills.”

“We drove and were happy to see a parking space just outside Nobu which I quickly pulled into. That's where it started to go wrong. Two bouncers blocked my path aggressively and instructed me to find another space. Meekly I did so. When they realised I was a customer they apologised and promised free drinks (which never arrived). Food was good, but the service was lacking and not what one would expect. There was a hair on my dessert which the waiting staff claimed came from the kitchen. I am convinced they returned the same dessert to me minus the hair and so I felt unable to eat it..... Whilst I have to say the main course was great and the place itself had a nice buzz, the experience with the door staff and the hair on my dessert means i will not be a repeat customer.”

“I don't think I've ever endured worse service. Our group was kept waiting for a table for 45 minutes despite having booked, only for the 3 of us to be squashed onto a table for 2 without either explanation or apology. It was then a further 30 before we were served the wrong starters ... 4 times!!! The wine was corked (not their fault but the manager kept on repeating that it wasn't her fault which didn't endear me to her) and the service itself was chaotic and surly. At the end of the evening, after much protestation we weren't charged for the meal but only after I made a monumental fuss. Don't go there!”

“My friends hired the bar for a private function in the basement, I was djing at the party. When we arrived we were greeted by a brute on the door demanding a £5 entry (which he was clearly going to pocket himself as there was no sign of a cashier) when we explained that we were guests of the "privately hired party" he carried on (rudely) with the same line. It wasn't until our host got the management involved that we were begrudgingly allowed in. As you can imagine this put a serious downer on the night and speaking to friends they received equally rude treatment. Despite all this we managed to have a good evening but unfortunately just as the beginning of the evening started off badly so did the end. As i went to play the last tune of the night a manager came over and stopped the music, i started it, he stopped it. My friend had over a hundred guests who had all spent some serious cash over the evening not only that he had paid good money for the hire of the place. After all that they wouldn't allow us the courtesy of playing one more record (within the 3am closing time) a petty argument ensued and we all left with a bitter taste in our mouthes. My advice, avoid the place the plague and i hope you will never have the misfortune of meeting the rude door man.”

“Esca is full. Cakes, food indulgient and healthy, large and small portions, no pretence yet extravagance. The cutomers are interesting you don't know if you're sitting next to a celeb, a philosopher or? I love it. Fab deiveries.”

“Avoid if you can. If you can't, just look at the glass over the kitchen, the dog doo in the beer garden, the filth outside and imagine how clean the kitchen must be if the areas you can see are this bad. Add to this the bad service and high-ish prices and you too will probably go to the Cutty Sark pub on the other side of the Naval College.”

The Temperance, Marylebone (Bar)
“Just read the review previous to mine. Couldn't believe my eyes and even had to check street map to see if there were two pubs called The Temperance in Marylebone. I went for food & drinks after work with a couple of friends and had a really enjoyable expierience... I too ordered the Fish and might I say it was not only delicious but huge. My friends opted for the Bar Tapas which had a vast menu to choose from. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful at helping my friends choose which tapas dishes to go for, all in all I really liked this place, great decor, good pub grub, friendly staff needless to say I will definetly be returning.”

“I remember coming here for the first time, and completely loving it. The food is completely authentic and not something i was particularly expecting from a suburban area like cockfosters. I love it!”

“I loved having a few pints at the Queen's Arms. The place was quite comfortable and the staff very welcoming. Next time I'll have to try the real ale based on the other reviews. The food was quite good, and since it was nice weather when I was there, we sat outside and admired the car showroom surrounded by college students. All in all its become my favorite spot in London for a quiet and relaxing drink.”

“Went here with my father for Sunday brunch prior to a gallery visit and were pleasantly surprised. I had eggs benedict which were fantastic and my dad had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - one of his all time favourites and he loved it. Congratulations to Christophers as my dad is very difficult to please where his food is concerned and you did it!!”

“Me and a friend recently went to Christophers and found it to be a great experience. The food was outstanding (especially the steak), the prices were reasonable (not to say cheap necessarily, but well worth the money) and the service excellent.”

The Toucan, Soho (Bar / Restaurant)
“This place is nice and cozy, but it's full of arrogant punters who think they own the joint. Not a problem if you're a regular I suppose 'cause they're probably your mates, but if you're not and your bar hopping, or in the area and looking for somewhere to sink a few probably better to skip this one. The service is poor as well.”

So Bar Richmond, Richmond & Kew (Bar)
“Nice decor, but not a proper cocktail bar. I asked for a Negroni and none of the bar staff had even heard of it! And when I told them what it was they didn't have any Campari to make it. So if you want the a small selection of drinks stuff served by people who know nothing about cocktails, it's OK.”

Japan Centre, Piccadilly (Restaurant)
“Been to Japan Centre since 2001, went today and it was complete disappointment. Service usual casual style, expanded restaurant for more table but price gone up by small %. Biggest disappointment was food portion decreased by 50% or so, spent £25 and did not feel my stomach, a bow of rice (don) £11 would fill me up nicely in the past! Claim to use the best ingredient but if the portion is designed for "fun-size" or kids, no thanks. Will not be returning...”
