Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Wine Office Court, 145 Fleet Street, Chancery Lane, London, EC4A 2BU (Map)

This is a fantastic pub full of character. When we come to London we end up in this pub in the front little room with the fire. It is marvellous how everyone just starts chatting and then go on their way.... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Grand setting, a real follow through with the theme down to the smallest details and the belly dancers were not bad either.”

“This is a great little bar tucked down a side street in Holborn. It's a great start to the night if you really like vodka. I am particularly found of the Rose and also Pear flavoured vodkas. It's fun trying the different flavours and there is also beer if you need a chaser.”

Westbourne House, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“Awful atmosphere. The staff made everyone in my group feel unwelcome and an annoyance. Although competent no-one has trained them in customer service and it feels like they are literally doing you a favour by serving you. The food was good. Overall not a place I’m thinking of going back to, but not terrible. If this place opened in any other place (say NYC) it would be deserted, only us Londoners can accept this kind of service and over-pay for it. Too bad though, because the place looks fab!”

Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Soho (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Given my location and the cost (travel, hotel etc) of visiting London, I consider myself a regular visitor to Ronnie Scott's and yes after the makeover; things are somewhat different from Ronnie's days; however I don’t believe the refurbishment is the cause of the lack of atmosphere. From my perspective the atmosphere has changed due to the change of emphasis “to make money and not music”; from my last visit 10/11/07, (and it will be the last) it appears they have now introduced two houses 6-10.30 pm and 11 pm – 3 am (Friday & Saturday) inviting you leave (bouncer at hand) at 10.30 if you booked the first house. Not only is this embarrassing and frustrating, because you are just getting into the swing of things, but it’s clear the artists (I know and have spoken with them) are somewhat embarrassed about it too. Interestingly, some of the artists I’ve spoken to, and in some cases have been on the UK jazz scene for over 30 years (no names), now insist they will not play Ronnie’s again. I have hung on to visiting Ronnie’s because there is no-where else with that fantastic atmosphere – but then “there are jazz ghosts in there”, and whilst I know things have to change, I find it an incredible insult to Ronnie Scott, and the myriad of fantastic jazz artist and jazz fans who have made Ronnie Scott’s what it is; that the current owners are cynically using the history and world wide reputation of Ronnie Scott’s to simply satisfy their need for profit.”

“The new look Clerkenwell is amazing. i've never seen a bar that looks like this. We went upstairs to the new restaurant, and although a little expensive, you get what you pay for. Very very good food. Great for after meal cocktails aswell! ”

Picture of Mirch Masala, Tooting, London

Mirch Masala, Tooting (Restaurant)
“We went to Mirch Masala thinkin that it would be as nice as the South Hall one is, but was very disappointed. Food is good - no doubt in that, but the staff are so full of attitude and disorder. I almost had a fight with one of the waiters. I always give respect to the people who are working but the waiters in Mirch Masala on Commercial Road near White Chappel are so rude and agressive. When i asked him not to bang the plates on the table please as it does not look good he replied "well thats how we do it here, and that is what we are taught to do". No way - i know Mirch Masala in South Hall and Tooting, they are very nice and have properly trained staff. But this one is too bad, rude and agressive. I had to leave without eating there because they really enjoy insulting the customer, and never say they are wrong. So rude that he swore at me and i was almost going to hit him. Was with family so did let it go.”

The White Horse, Brixton (Bar)
“This pub has a great atmosphere - friendly staff, good food and great selection of beverages. Later into the night when the DJ starts the addicting tunes, the dancefloor heats up and everyone is just having a great time. I was trying to find somewhere for a farewell party and this is one of the only remaining places that allows you to book tables on a Friday or Saturday night. Would recommend the White Horse to anyone looking for an enjoyable night out.....”

La Vina (Tapas Restaurant), Tottenham (Bar)
“We have been coming to this restaurant for some years and have always been extremely pleased with the service and especially the food. This opinion is born out by the number of regular diners and the restaurant being full most nights. Couple the above with below average prices and you have all the ingredients for a cracking evening.”

The Feathers, Westminster (Bar)
“Popped into The Feathers on Halloween, it had a most welcome environment. It was Tardis-like in that it looks smaller on the outside, but indoors there was loads of room. The menu is fairly varied and they offer about 15 different types of sausage!! ”

“Entirely agree with previous review. The Pizza Metro truly is fantastic. The only pizzeria in South London that even notoriously fussy Italians rave about. Great wines too, and very gracious service.”

Little Italy, Soho (Bar)
“Visit here at your peril! I went on Saturday night at the recommendation of a friend. We didn't eat but were going for the bar and for a dance. The bouncers are unbelievably rude. We were physically and verbally abused by them. Bearing in mind that I was with several other females (no males in the group), they pushed us around, threatened to hit us, swore at us, made vulga insinuations and were generally a good representative to many of the non UK national bouncers out there. Little Italy should be ashamed. NB once inside the place was beyond pokey with a bad atmosphere. All in all an extremely poor venue.”
