The Rapscallion 75 Venn street, Clapham Common, Clapham, London, SW4 0DB (Map)

A fab place to come. During the day it serves excellent food and in the evening it's a very cool bar indeed. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious, if a bit mean on the portions for the money... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Nice bar that's slightly quirky, so good to impress a date. Low sofa type of seating and a cosy dark atmosphere. The drinks are can be expected of a london bar, price and inventiveness. The staff are nice enough although not very helpful and too engrossed in themselves and each other to serve, unless you are trying to have a conversation yourself, in which they will interrupt about 6 times in 1 hour, when before it took me 30 mins to get noticed.”

Blacks, Soho (Bar / Club)
“Almost entirely lit by candlelight in the evening, this place is steeped in atmosphere and once inside you feel as if you have stepped into a Dickens' novel (except for better sanitation and a noticeable lack of orphans). If you like good conversation, wine, ridiculous anecdotes, talking to people you've never met before, sumptuous old armchairs and an abundance of cushions you will appreciate Blacks. Its not for music, dancing, or taking people you don't really intend spending the night talking to. Staff are really friendly but prepared to be shouted at if you dare to use your mobile phone - all phones are banned once inside. Food is also great with the ground floor restaurant providing delicious three course menus for £20. Persuade a rich friend to join and then tag along.”

“Klepto, are you sure you have ever been in this pub. For a start, they don't take any credit cards although you say they take them all. And do you think £2.80 is cheap for a pint of Stella, or £3.80 for a pint of Hoegaarten?”

“Once you get past the crowds of rude drunken blokes who are not being allowed in and for some reason dont understand why, this place rocks. Always full and very friendly. Two different rooms with 70s in the bar and up to date dance in the back room.”

“recently palais, or ponana as otherwise known, has upgraded the music from quite trashy cheese/pop to chart/r n'b.You're guarenteed a good time if you go with all your mates, and lots of drink inside you.don't go sober.there are a few scuffles every week, but the staff are friendly enough.seats are all around the large dancefloor, but are often full with horny couples.age group is about 18-25 with a good few middle aged foreigners who wont resist any opportunity to make a pass at the ladies.basically, its a laugh if you're drunk enough, or if you like the music.and make sure you get a free ticket from outside hopholes.”

“I visited this gaff last Saturday night and left a little confused - is it a bar is? Is it a restaurant? It certainly isn't Superman. We were in the function room upstairs nibbling on Indian finger food and drinking £3 bottles of Tiger. Not asked to leave until 1am I guess we must have benefitted from a late license or was it simply that we were in a restaurant? Answers on a postcard too...”

“M & H has had some problems in the past with the hostesses and door staff although they have addressed this and have employed some great new staff. M & H is not like any other bar in London. The cocktails are the best in London, they only use the best ingredients and juices they can squeeze themselves; hence no cranberry or coke. The bar staff are great and knowledgeable and if you open yourself up to M & H you will have a great time. There is no dance floor, no DJ and the place isnt packed, thats what makes it special, come here if your other half or close friends and enjoy socialising with each other, that is what M & H is all about. There is no pretentions and it doesnt matter who you are. A superb bar.”

“This must be the best "local" in London. Hopefully not too many people know about this venue as I would hate to see it become infested with people who do not appreciate it's charm.”

“Yep this is a great bar. Loads of seating, a nice crowd, great new menu and of course fantastic reviews over the river. My only complaint would be the attitude of the staff at chucking out time - it is rather unpleasant having someone screaming at you from 11.01 to finish up and get out.”

“Pleasent medium sized pub by the Thames. Lots of outdoor seating, and nice food. Only disadvantage is football supporters swamp it when a game is one locally (which fortunately is not frequently).”

“Being a member of Milk and Honey I may be biased, but I joined for a reason. I think this place is one of a kind wonderful. The drinks are impeccable, service is definitely not in your face, but polite and curteous. The atmosphere is relaxing and conducive to enjoying the food and drink infront of you. The only reason you could have a bad time is if you behave like an ignorant pig. Everyone is equal in the land of milk and honey, and if you share a table you might meet some incredible people, so stop complaining greg.”

“If you are not afraid of heights and want do something more glamorous and discrete than beeing on the London Eye why not try this most luxurious view of London all for only £10 set menu. Located on Level 42 of the former Nat West Tower, the Bizarre pan-London skyline has fantastic views, it's brilliant watching London light up, would definitely recommend a sun-set visit. But in case you are interested in classy cocktails, seafood and champagne menu Don't forget the wallet!”

Electric Ballroom, Camden (Bar)
“Ive only been on a Friday night when it was a bizarre electro/trance/grunge mix but surprisingly (since Im more of an rnb/cheesy pop kinda gal) I had a really good time. If youre not used to this sort of crowd it takes time to adjust to seeing so many full-on goths and fetishists but along with an increase of men in make-up comes a decrease in both lechery and attitude. The music also took a little getting used to but once I had, I found myself head-banging with the rest (and the best) of them. Drinks-wise its all pretty studenty: really cheap but pretty basic...i wouldnt ask for anything more complicated than a vodka orange since my request for cranberry juice was met with disgust! the main dance floor is also filled with people doing funny tricks with ribbons and the like whihc is good to just sit and be entranced by once you're nicely tipsy. On Saturdays they do a night called Shake which is 70s,80s,90s and is always packed out. Like I said i havent been there yet but its reputation is incredible and I cant wait to go.”

“Lets start with the things it isnt: its not intimate, its not hip, its not cheap and its not easy to get in BUT despite all that its worth going to. The punters can have a bit of an attitude problem and there are only about 4 seats you can use without paying for them but the music is 'jumping, jumping' and they even lay on some podium dancers whihc is always amusing! Little tip though...go to the loo about 30 mins before you need to because the queues fors the ladies are huge even by london club standards.”

Belgo Noord, Belsize Park & Chalk Farm (Bar / Restaurant)
“Cheap and cheerful is probably the best way to describe this restaurant. Its good for either a quick bite or a leisurely evening because the service is good but the staff (dressed as monks!) wont rush you. They do a huge range of Belgian beers, but if thats not your thing then the wine is nice and reasonably inexpensive, and they also do a good range of flavoured schnapps. In terms of food there is one thing that Belgo is all about and thats mussels: huge pots od mussels which come with the best chips in London. I dont know much about the rest of the menu because I love the mussels so much that Ive never had anything else but they do other food like steak frites which is supposedly excellent.”
