Indian Room, Balham (Restaurant)
“How unfortunate. This restaurant used to be a destination for good, well cooked and wholesome food. If you’re looking for a menu full of meat that was cooked a few hours prior to you ordering it and then re-heated a few minutes after you’ve chosen, however, this is the place to go. A real shame, as the staff are very jolly and attentive and our guy did appear to be genuinely disappointed with my reply, “far too much salt”, when he asked, “how was everything?” The thing is, I ordered chicken madras but I got a salt bomb with excessive garlic. In truth I couldn’t sense the garlic but my wife certainly did when we arrived home as I enjoyed a post prandial Listerine– tellingly saying, “sit as far away as possible as the garlic is overpowering”. I consider myself an expert in madras, so can say with confidence that I have never seen one serviced up in a black sauce. Oh dear; this is a cry from the heart –please go back to your old ways.”
