The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town, City of London (Bar)
“A great lively atmosphere. No long queues at the bar. Drinks are a bit expensive. The best thing: the secret location. The epitome of a hidden gem bar.”

The Lion, Stoke Newington (Bar)
“Great tunes, lots of pretty ladies, an Argentine BBQ out back, plus a nifty little beer garden that catches the sun all day. Love this pub.”

Happiness Forgets, Shoreditch (Bar)
“Dark but dingy, this basement cocktail bar in Hoxton Square has the appeal of a dive bar almost. I can imagine get slowly slaughtered in here whilst the world goes about it's business outside. The table service is a good idea. It means there's more time for chit-chat (no queuing at the bar). The usual Shoreditch crowd is happy hanging out here.”

Worship Street Whistling Shop (closed), Shoreditch (Bar)
“Wow, what a bar! Or is it even a bar? More a Victorian Den of Iniquity. If you liked Purl then you'll love the theatre of this Shoreditch cocktail bar. Doing for cocktails what Heston Blumenthal does for food at the Fat Duck, the staff here are passionate about creating unusual experience, and not just drinks. I came here on a first date recently. We both had an amazing time. I may even get a second date. Thanks Whistling Shop!”

Old Bank of England, City of London (Bar)
“An excellent range of Fuller's ales. A nice, large walk around bar. Probably the grandest entrance to any pub in England. And the decor is also very opulent. Friendly service too.”

Baranis, City of London (Bar)
“What a great little hidden gem of a bar. Loving all the little alcoves and the 1960s feel. A bit of a wait at the bar but then a game on the indoor petanque court made up for that. Very popular with French people, which is a good sign. And the fries: best fries I've ever had in London.”

The Bridge Lounge & Dining Room, London Bridge & Bermondsey (Bar / Restaurant)
“Terrible pub. You would hope that because it is right opposite Potters Field and near to Tower Bridge that there might be a bit of an atmosphere but this pub doesn't even have music. It's like walking into a funeral wake. Everyone looks so bleeding miserable. Including the bar staff. Don't bother.”

The Woolpack, London Bridge & Bermondsey (Bar)
“An awesome beer garden on a sunny day, although some of it is covered. Lots of beautiful young people to smile at, loads of beers on tap, and some pretty decent beers on tap.”

The Miller, Borough & Southwark (Bar / Club)
“A young, rocking crowd (probably due to the pub's proximity to the hospital - students?) with some great live music upstairs later in the evening. I like the quirky decor too.”

Marlborough, Richmond & Kew (Bar)
“Easily one of the best beer gardens in south London, if not the whole of London. All you need is a sunny day and hey presto, the perfect Sunday!”

5 Pollen St (closed), Mayfair (Restaurant)
“Classic Italian cuisine with a few modern quirks thrown in. Be warned, it's not cheap, but then you will be eating truffle and suchlike so what can you expect. Reassuringly expensive. I was satisfied.”

1707 Wine Bar, St James (Bar / Restaurant)
“A very trendy set with a nifty spiral staircase to descend. It almost feels like an epicurean spa break. We had the Toulouse sausage & pork belly cassoulet and were not disappointed. If you can, book ahead and get a seat at the bar (especially if you're on a date)”

“Not your run-of-the-mill hotel restaurant. The central location will appeal to visitors to London, I'm sure. My wife and I booked a special offer online but still got treated like royalty. The bar is well stocked too so we had a drink there first.”

1 Lombard Street - 1776 Restaurant, City of London (Restaurant)
“Exceptional service, lots of room for a fine dining restaurant, and a vibrant hum of chatter from business colleagues and romantics alike. I'd recommend a nice bottle of the New Zealand Pinot Noir and the rack of lamb.”

The Big Chill House, Kings Cross (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“I like the refurbishment they've done on this King's Cross bar and club. The roof terrace is possibly the best roof terrace in London. Nice variety of seating arrangements too. Lacking a bit on the ale side of things but if you sit in one of the window seats at about 5pm the sea of pretty ladies walking past will distract you from this in no time.”

VOC, Kings Cross (Bar / Restaurant)
“This bar has such a unique idea. There's not anything else like it in London, as far as I know. Barrel-aged punches, or old cocktails, that get even more pungent with time. Nice cosy little space too, tucked in the Regent's Quarter, creating a trio of delights with Camino and Bar Pepito next door. One for the cocktail aficionado, this bar.”
