MEATmarket, West End (Restaurant)
“This place is a bit tricky to find so I suggest approaching along Tavistock Street instead of the Covent Garden piazza side. It's basically on a balcony above the 'tacky' market on the south side of Covent Garden, above all the chintz sellers. Wrap up warm because it's chilly up there during winter. A great use of space though and love the authentic decor. The Philly cheesesteak could be cheesier but delicious nonetheless. Boozy milkshakes are a good call too.”

“There's no denying that the cocktails are some of the best cocktails in Shoreditch, but the decor and the whole 'City' vibe is just a little out of place in Shoreditch. This bar needs to be about half a mile down towards Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Bank. It's meant for suits and people who get the Essex train into London for a night out. Brown leather absolutely everywhere - come on people! Looked good in the 90s. The previous incarnation - Tabernacle? - was much better. What happened to the disco floor downstairs? Now it's just pictures of naked ladies and shot girls wandering about. Trashy. Still, good place to satrt an evening for a quiet cocktail.”

“Outstanding fish dishes and hot sake. If you're looking for a swanky restaurant away from the maddening crowds of Leicester Square and Covent Garden then this West End Japanese restaurant (just opposite Stringfellows) is the schizzle. Slick, chic, shiny - it's a WAG's wet dream. Feels almost like a high end club. Recommend a cocktail upstairs first.”

“Possibly the best new bar in all of London, and easily the best hidden gem bar in London. The cocktails are amazing - real alchemy sh*t, these guys know their stuff - and if you like quirky bars with hidden dens and Victorian charm, you'll love this bar. Old school vibe in modern central London.”

“I had a most enjoyable evening here the other night with a beautiful woman. We finished up here after closing all the other bars in the area and this bar had the right kind of atmosphere for us to carry on. It stays open late so it's popular with student, foreign visitors going out in the Leicester Square area and anyone who works in the hospitality industry. So quite an enjoyable mix of folk and a funky mix of music. £3.50 a piece or a bottle of beer - not bad for the area.”

Masaledar, Tooting (Restaurant)
“I've lived in Tooting for about 8 years now and this is definitely the best Indian restaurant in the area. The recent refurbishment has made it quite a cool place to hang out too: the glass-covered kitchen so you can watch the magic happen; the water feature wall; the sparkly walls; the mood lighting. And the food is excellent considering the price they ask for it. The spices aren't too hot either so if you normally go a korma, extend your boundaries and try something a little meaner. You wont regret it. BYOB perfect with Tescos just over the road too.”

Tayyabs, Whitechapel & Wapping (Restaurant)
“Many people believe Tayyabs is the best Pakistani restaurant in London. I think it's definitely up there, but not possibly the best. It's certainly popular. We reserved a table for 12 on a Tuesday night and we still had to wait in line for half an hour. It's insanely busy in there. The service is great though and the lamb chops are legendary (my main reason for going really). But I did find some of the food a tad greasy and I couldn't help thinking that there must be better curry restaurants in London. I might stick with Tooting next time.”

“Although the drinks aren't cheap, there is a good range of wines, bottled beers and spirits at this frankly ramshackle haven of individuality. I challenge anyone to find a more unique bar experience than this anywhere in the world, let alone London. There's ping pong, fussball, alfresco drinking, live indoor music, and oh, the odd piece of theatre thrown in for good measure. Easily one of the best bars in London!”

“Tooting is fast becoming a trendy area to live. The Antelope is proof of this. A former old man's hideout, it has been taken over by some people who know what they're doing: good pub pub, loads of comfy seating, a nifty little beer garden, plus loads of cool events. And the beer selection is varied. One of the best gastropubs in South London.”

“What a find so close to the main shopping area of Oxford Street. Forget all those mediocre chain restaurants and fast food joints close by. This is a much more relaxed affair. If it's sunny, the outdoor pavement seating is ideal for people-watching (a beautiful area architecturally too) and if it's not so sunny, there's plenty of room inside where the frescos and innate sense of artistic appreciation is quite evident. As for the food and service. Top notch in both cases. The staff are super friendly and like to have a bit of laugh with everyone and the food portions are enormous (two courses will suffice). I recommend the Gamberoni if you're like me and like a bit of spice with your seafood.”

“Despite the convenient location, I probably wouldn't eat here again. We went with one of the special offers through Fluid London only to find out it was normal practice at the restaurant (cheeky restaurant!). The decor is dated, the food is limp and the atmosphere is non-existent. The compartmentalised booths make you feel very isolated. Still, it was handy for a quick dinner before going to The Royal Opera House.”

“It was late, a friend and I had been on mini pub crawl, and we ended up in here. It was filled with wholesome looking 30-something folk enjoying a natter amid modern decor. The pretty bar lady who served us a deliciously pint of cool Young’s ale took a short fag break in the nifty back terrace area and began chatting with us. She was possibly the most genuine bar lady I’d ever met and she made us feel completely welcome.”

“Are you a lush? Are you demon drinker? Then the Barley Mow is for you. A true pissheads pub. Everyone in there looks like they could be in The Pogues. Is that a blue flashing light? Don’t worry, it’s just an ambulance coming to collect another quitter. As an aside - great music policy.”

The Diner, Shoreditch (Bar / Restaurant)
“I’ve been to Philadelphia in the US. I’ve tasted an authentic Philly Steak with Cheese. I’ve been to The Diner in Shoreditch and eaten what they claim was a Philly Steak with Cheese. It was not even close. Firstly, it came in a baguette. And the cheese was just thrown on top, not melted right through to the core. And the cheese fries - oh dear! The staff here are overworked and the queue out the door is testament to that (as are the state of the toilets). I did enjoy the tunes, however, and I felt at home amongst the bohemian crowd, even if they didn’t realise they were being cheated of authenticity.”

“Pity the only beer on tap is Red Stripe because this place could be the best bar in Shoreditch. The service is glacial, at best, but that’s fine because I still enjoyed my two hours at Cocomo because (a) good tunes, (b) decent prices and (c) LOADS of pretty ladies. I’ll be back.”

“A beautiful little cafe/bar hidden away in a fantastic square in Kensington. Keep this one a secret though, it's not big enough for everyone to know about.”

“Popped in here one week night with a couple of lovely ladies I know who live locally and ended up taking part in the quiz. I cant vouch for the food but the drinks range is fairly decent; a sign of a good Young’s pub these days. It has an intriguing split level affair which needs to be seen. The pub quiz was quite difficult, but I’d still go back for more.”

“I came here with 3 mates because we found some special offers on Fluid and because it’s a nice and central place to meet. A word of warning: although the food is of a fairly high quality, the restaurant lacks in any kind of atmosphere. It feels pretty much like a hotel lobby. Probably because that’s what it is. This is heavily emphasised by the amount of lone diners who are clearly away on business. The service was very average (they looked very bored), taking an age between courses even though there were only about 7 customers on the night we visited. The food was good though and well worth the £15 for 2-courses we paid.”

Who knew Tooting could have such a find. Top tunes, quick service at the abr, good choice of drinks, happy friendly people and possibly the most gorgeous bar ladies south of the river. My new favourite hangout.”

Heaven, Soho (Bar / Club)
“This is fast becoming one of THE places to go for live music in London. Heaven is usually known for its dance music clubbing vibe, in particular the gay scene, but myself and a mate saw The View play here the other night and had a great time. The sound is pretty good and it’s easy to get served. The clientele are always up for a laugh too. Not just an Oonst-Oonst club, it’s also an air guitar club.”

The Sampler, Angel & Islington (Bar)
“A brilliant concept in a brilliant area. Now all those amazing sauvignon blancs, grenache and pinot noir that I've wanted to try for so long are all available under one roof. It's so easy: chuck a few quid on a top-up card and away you go. They even have a section where you can sample the REALLY expensive wines without having to buy the whole bottle. Great idea for a gift.”
