CellarDoor Description
CellarDoor is featured in these Guides:
CellarDoor is an intimate bar under the Aldwych in a space just big enough for cats (both feline and human) to swing – imagine 30’s Berlin meets New York jazz dive.
Open to 1am nightly with live acts each evening from 9pm along with Hang the DJ - London’s first SMS text jukebox. They serve excellent wines, beers, coffees and cocktail. Whilst in homage to its previous incarnation as the most infamous gents in Theatreland - once the reputed haunt of Wilde, Orton and Gielgud - the bar still boasts the sexiest toilets in London.

“A great first date bar. Small, cosy, good selection of drinks, quirky, right in the West End, and there's always something happening so it will keep the conversation flowing. That said, my first date hasn't called me back yet. Maybe I'll take my next date here then.”

“Superb subterranean cabaret bar in a rather unlikely location of a loo under the Strand. Secluded and perfect for illicit affairs with bum shaped banquettes, kiss me/lick me bar stools, and the sexiest toilets around, this place oozes cool in a space barely bigger than your front room.
The cocktails are fabulous, but the nightly live jazz is where CellarDoor really comes alive. Kitty La Roar and Nick of Time on Thursdays always get everyone going with crazy, mixed up renditions of grunge hits and swing classics.”

“Cool underground bar - very small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in
imagination with free text jukebox, translucent loos doors that mist over when you
lock them, amazing cabaret and burlesque acts every night from 9pm and table
service from fallen angels (complete with wings). But above everything else the bar
staff are friendly with none of the snotty attitude you get in lots of Central London
bars. The cocktails are great and, although they're not the cheapest in the West
End they're very reasonable - especially as there is no entrance fee even for the live
acts”
