Comptons of Soho Description

A traditional pub with 20 years history as a gay venue. Set in the heart of Soho slap bang in the centre of Old Compton street. Comptons is popular throughout the year, particulary in the summer when people stand out on the street with a pint in their hand or watch the view out of the large open upstairs windows. Downstairs can be quite cruisey whereas upstairs provides a light, pretty much music free environment with pleanty of seating.

“Unhappy to discover one particular barman was overcharging me for drinks by 10% and putting the extra in the tip box. I tip well in the USA because service is generally friendly and attentive. Not so here. Perhaps I was wrong but he was charging me £4.50 for a pint of Kronenbourg. Not the first time this has happened to me in Comptons. Good bar but like many place in the UK then the staff really do need some customer service training and learn to drop the attitude.”

“This pub is a legend! One of the oldest gay venues in town, its a proper old pub, with great prices, lower than most of the bars around it. The crowd is usually fun and chilled but can verge on a bit sleazy, depending on the day/time, etc. Upstairs is more chilled with nice tables looking out onto the action of the street below.”
