Loungelover Bar Review
Loungelover Bar is featured in these Guides:
A lounge to love
In a space formerly occupied by a meat-packing factory is Loungelover, a bar brought to you by the same people who own the decadent Les Trois Garcons restaurant.
Trickily located behind the barren, industrial Bethal Green Road it’s unlikely to pick up any passing trade, Loungelover can only be found if you hunt it down. But find it and you’ll be rewarded with a Ready Brek glow of smugness (that the patrons of this place all seem to have) for your efforts.
Past an entrance marked with a coupla flaming torches is a seriously beautiful room. The interior is a visual feast that includes a hippo head, spookily lit doll’s house, chandeliers, Chinese lanterns, plastic crabs and retro furnishings. Even the affable staff are part of this visual stimulus, our waiter in particular had cheekbones you could shave parmesan on.
The cocktails here are an utter must, though you might want to wait till payday or a lottery win before you visit as pricing is steep. A potent Pizzazz (£10) contained rum, cognac, sherry, maple syrup, gingerbread liqueur, unsalted butter, cinnamon and nutmeg; served warm with festive ingredients it really does make it the season to be jolly, jolly tipsy. A Mrs Robinson (cognac, Drambuie, honey and rosemary) was suitably rich and a bit naughty.
Food wise, the pork belly was great value at £12.50. Hefty and satisfying, it had just the right balance of fat and meat, crackling that didn’t break my jaw and was served with a yummy apple and plum chutney. Fishcakes at £11.95 were excellent but ‘delicate’ in portion sizes. Apart from small fishcakes though, what isn’t there to love about this lounge?
NB: One very important tip is that even though you can just drop in for a drink you can also call ahead to book a table, and seeing as they only let a certain number of people in to avoid over-crowding you might wanna drop them a line to do just that....read more

“This bar rocks
I was there for a friend's wedding in May.
I couldn't believe my eyes on how beautifully decorated the bar is. My friends, who are both into arts, couldn't choose a better venue to celebrate their big day. I absolutely loved it.
We were quite a large group but I am sure it will look fabulous and full of beautiful people on a Friday or Saturday night however I spoke to a lovely lady at the door and she recommended booking in advance...no need to say they have the most exclusive cocktail list in London town and the food with is amazing.
Guys check this place up; you will not regret!”

“Lounge Lover certainly is a dynamic spot. The cocktail menu and food is truly inspired and it has a certain ambiance of wonder. It is a great spot for a romantic evening or first date. Unfortunately though the staff really let this otherwise promising venue down dramatically. Although we were welcomed nicely enough by the reception staff, our waitress was most unhelpful and inconsiderate. From the time we were seated we felt that we were unwelcome and pressured to leave. After we were midway through our meal she even took the drinks menu from our table and reacted to our order for more cocktails like it was chore. All up our waitress was very inattentive and rude. Such a shame that an otherwise interesting venue with such amazing food and cocktails are let down by their staff. i know that you can't judge a venue by one experience with one waitress but so was the extent of the poor service endured. I won't be visiting again and would advise others not to bother. There are many other bars in the area with great cocktails and food that care about their visitors.”

“Not many places you go to inspire like Lounge Lover. Its always full lovely furniture with the kind of people who appreciate it. The atmosphere is great and lively. Its certainly a class above the rest and the drinks and service are up there with the best. In this credit crunch i go out less but i chose special places like Lounge Lover to spend my money. Why spend it at those ghastly bars when you soak up the glamour here.”

“London has a lot to offer and Loungelover is probably one of the best of its offerings. Simply wonderful to spend the hours away here. Before you know it's time to leave. Loungelover seems to attract a wide cross section of clients. The clients are as varied as the styles of furniture here. This venues is a true depiction of London as it's really cosmopolitan. Each time i have been i meet people from all over and they are really friendly. All my friends are always up for meeting up there.”

“Loungelover is possibly the best bar ever. Everything about it is perfect. The staff are really friendly and accommodating. The food and drinks are well executed. The interiors are mind blowing and you feel that you are in your friends lounge as its so unpretentious even though its so decadent and beautiful. Loungelover gets top marks from me as its a truly amazing venue.”

“The best thing about Loungelover is that its truly unique. It attracts all walks of life who enjoy the decadence and fun factor that it does so well. The cocktails are truly inspirational and it probably will not attract the All Bar One crowd as there isn't much on the list to please them. The whole place just exudes a understated air of sophistication without shoving it in your face like many places that try too hard. Its the kind of place if you understand it, you fall under its spell. How can you not when all the right ingredients are there. Great drinks, friendly helpful staff, yummy food and best of all the incredible interiors that so many had tried to plagarise unsuccessfully. Loungelover remains my all time favourite place to visit.”

“OK - last night was my second visit and it hadn't improved any. I was there a few months ago and i felt it fairly dire.
My qualms - once the service charge is taken into account a £4.75 beer costs £5.30. There was only one choice of beer when i was there both times - there are two on the menu, but twice now they only had one kind. Starting at £4.75 a bottle you would belive it should at least be some kind of import - but nope, its made the exotic 25 mile drive from the heart of bedfordshire.
The place looks nice - i can't fault the decor - i would call it exuberant, but i like that sort of thing....... it's just that i can't help thinking the service charges, and over the top prices are still going on paying the interior decorators.
I was tempted by precisely 1 of the cocktails on the very large cocktail menu - and be warned few if any of the classics appear on the menu - but if you like all things passion fruit and fig liquor then the cocktail range is for you.
Admittedly i may be being a tad unfair handing out 2stars - but it does smell a tad of a rip off all round and the range of beer (singular) should bring Trading Standards in over its description as a "bar".”

“Extraordinary and unique East End bar, just off the cocktail highway. Wonderful visual experience starting with welcoming flaming torches and a charming maitre d'h, and into to the old meat factory transformed into a sophisticated 21st-century bar with vintage chandeliers and dolls' house, stuffed animal trophies, 70s lights, a giant glitterball and various collected clutter reminiscent of the allied Les Trois Garcons restaurant around the corner. Wine priced within reach, and tempting-sounding cocktails and Japanese tapas. Comfortable chairs. Good music.”

“What a place. Its by far the best bar in London. The drinks, the food the atmosphere. Its sexy romantic, relaxed and not at all pretentious. I came here from Sosho on Tabernacle St. and thought that place was ok but not sure what all the fuss was about but Loungelover.... Fabulous darling!”

“Finally went after i heard so many good things about Loungelover. It was everything that my friends said and more. I felt that I was beamed into another world. A world of fun, beauty, amazement and welcome. Its the kind of place to just relax and absorb the ambience and observe the very varied clientele. Loungelover would appeal to a wide cross section of people except those who feel that they don't belong because they are insecure. Places like this are rare and i will make the effort to return as often as possible even though i don't live nearby.”

“I dropped into Loungelover at 11pm on a Friday night, dropped my sack of bagels off at the accomodating reception and headed for the Bar, as one does. The floor staff looked at me as if my head was on backwards. The oh-so-macho barmen took my arrival in better stride and mixed me up a couple of cocktails.
They didn't know how to mix a treacle so I talked one of them through it and he made a fine fist of it, my daiquiri follow-up was a touch sour for my palette.
Now I don't know about you but I'm normally happy enough pottering into a bar solo and having a chat with the bar if it isn't too busy. The guys behind the counter were affable enough, but I had no-where to sit and had to pay service (!) on my two cocktails, taking them over the tenner each. Ouch.
Scanning the place, everyone was seated, very well-behaved, and intent on looking hip, without adding much to a self-concious, rather studiously cool atmosphere.
Having said all that, it would make an impressive venue for a blind-date, because it looks great and there's plenty to look at. With the right people in tow, I'd be prepared to have another go at this place.”

“This has to be one of the most spectacular bars in London. If you're looking to impress and don't mind flashing the cash then this is definitely the place. I went there once with friends, but for me that was enough. Paying top-end West End prices in the East End - no matter how sumptiously (and camply) decorated - sticks in the craw somewhat. It was waiter service only and a minimum of £10 a drink - plus to add insult to injury - there was only one or two ladies' loos in the whole place. Definitely worth a visit though to check it out, but be warned - despite the grim location - it ain't cheap!”

“Stunning theatrical - oriental, gothic, ancient greek/roman and 70's disco decor collide to produce this outrageously fab venue. Very busy, however drinks are ordered through knowledgeable waiters (not at the bar) so you're not spending half of your evening queueing. Outstanding drinks (though expensive), recommend the blueberry cocktails. Tough door policy yet polite, not a bouncer in sight! Full of gorgous gals and cool boys - GO!!!”

“Multi award winning super uber bar. Decorated in giddy high style, somewhat theatrical meets country house. Brilliant cocktails, expensive excellent food, jam packed six nights a week with genuine Hoxtonites and beautiful Notting Hill imports. Need to book well in advance to eat, otherwise expect to share half a stool with 3 other wannabes at the crowded bar.”
