Look Couch, here she is, looking as though she’s ready for luxury, dressed in black with sparkles. I think I can see sparkles in her eyes, too. Am I wrong or do I see a little tear? I understand her; I’m equally emotional in front of an eye-melting sunset or an elegantly furnished hotel hall or dinner table.
Come Swinging Doors; let’s give her the night of a lifetime. After all, we are Le Méridien hotel. It’s warm and London is hectic. Eros at Piccadilly Circus told me earlier that it’s full of tourists out there. They are frolicking and chatting loudly.
Red Sofas, do smile at her with your modern allure. Floor, give her that traditional feeling with your geometrical, reserved, black and white design. Walls, please embrace her with your warm grey and red shades.
I know what she’s thinking; yes, my dear, we remind you of Art Nouveau and Liberty & Co. Once, maybe, elegant women walked through these doors dressed in black and gold, with smoky eyes and dark red lip-gloss. We saw them. My friends, the walls; my mates, the staircases; my buddies, the red sofas and black austere lamps, they have all witnessed the likes of Sarah Bernard, Charlie Chaplin, Josephine Baker, Duke Ellington; maybe, but regardless, we love to seduce.
Lifts, take her upstairs! Use all your dramatic effects and open your doors straight onto the restaurant. Look everybody, look: she is amazed, she is happy, she is impressed.
I hope that Chandeliers will use all their charm: swing around, my people, show up your big black feather-light balloons. It is a vortex for her. Look again, team; her head is spinning, her eyes are melting, her mouth opened in admiration.
I expect that Waiting Staff will help us make this an unforgettable evening. Let her ask for the moon and give it to her!
Well done, Boris Barman. Spritz for her and German Gin for her partner, expertly delivered with interesting information about gin, Japanese whiskey and cigars. Impressive, I am proud of you for adding to this glorious space.
Pst pst, Long Wooden Table, Candles, Piano, Grey Walls; it’s your moment now. I know you can make her feel warm and cosy with your modern and traditional touches. Look, she’s daydreaming about holding a party here, gold/black/silver attire requested.
Terrace Restaurant is my comrade: I have full trust in her, we’ve been working together for some time now and since she’s chosen her new dress, made of glass, she works in any weather.
How nice: our guest sits by the window and checks out the busy Piccadilly beneath. Opposite, Waterstone’s bookstore, great neighbour; a bit further down, BAFTA, Café Pascucci, and Fortnum & Mason; we are a great group, very London and so incredibly chic.
Here they come, my pals the Food: Bread is fresh and served with white terrine; Consommé in small shot glasses, savoury, the way it should be; Squid, fried to perfection; Potato Mash, creamy and fluffy; Meat, perfectly roasted; P-E-R-F-E-C-T my friends, what an ensemble.
Desserts are my favourite. I know, I know, I hear the complaints. Desserts are my chosen and I therefore treat them better, but what can I say? Shortcrust is the lightest, fragrant and sweetest thing I have ever met!
Le Metre, manager Roberto, appears like the genie from the lamp. Flawlessly, he’s guiding her back to the sofas where she can finish coffee and whiskey. Roberto is also sharing his secret: how to make great Limoncello (just use sugar, hot water, vodka and lemons and then, once bottled, put it in the dishwasher). I hope she won’t share this around. It is Roberto’s special secret for the best Limoncello you can ever make.
I am so proud of us, well done all my friends and yes, I have to admit, Waiting Staff have been up to standard and they have not disappointed.
I know she will be back and I know she will bring many friends. Ah, ah, ah, we made it again: the perfect night of indulgence, decadence and pampering. We are Le Méridien, after all.
