Barbecoa Description
House in the One New Change building development recently opened in the shadows of St Paul’s Catherdral (great views, by the way), this City restaurant will be that perfect posh stop off for tourists and City works doing the business lunch thing.
American chef Adam Perry Lang has joined forces on this restaurant venture with a young upstart called Jamie Oliver (you may have heard of him) and the emphasis for Barbecoa is a celebration of the relationship between fire and food. The menu is all about meat, seafood and quality seasonal ingredients being cooked in exciting ways using fire, wood, smoke and charcoal to create rich, earthy flavours. Barbecoa has its own butcher’s shop adjacent to the restaurant selling quality British meat, poultry and game.

“Very disappointing. Went for dinner on a Friday night. There was no one at front of house, so had to queue to speak to someone at the cloakroom who was talking to a colleague. Then was told no room in the cloakroom for my coat and brolly but as we had an extra seat at our table i could leave my things there when we were seated. Bar staff were fab and cocktails were amazing. We then had to ask if our table was ready at about 9.15 (booking was for 9). We were taken to the table but no one took our drinks on a tray over to the table which i would expect as just standard. The comfy pink sofa looked great and we had a table with an amazing view of St Pauls. BUT with 2 tealights and hardly any lighting from above we couldnt even read the menu. We asked for more light from our wonderful waiter, who obliged with another tea light. when the food came - we couldnt see what we were eating! No garlic crisps with my chicken but the cavalo nero and the chips were yum. Starters were good, mains not great and a bit small and deserts were good. wine was great. The front of house or lack of ruined it a bit for me...first impressions count. Probably wont go back unless i was in a large group and could sit in the booths.”

“WOW! Totally mind and tantalising taste bud blowing - thats Barbacoa. My hubby and I went for a treat lunch last Saturday for lunch. The staff from front of house to the lovely gent server to the kind lady who showed me to the ladies to the chefs who cooked mouth waterring meals to the lady who cleared out table .......thankyou! Oh, and the bar staff who kept the champagne and beer flowing - such yummy treats! The setting is stunning, modern yet elegant. Trendy yet not trying to be, clean, open, interesting......friendly!!! Thats without starting to comment on the food! We had delicious starters and then chicken and steak - the sauce must have been made in heaven - the steak melted in your mouth. Watch out for the creamed veg dishes - wow! The chips - goes without saying, gorgeous. The timing between courses perfect of course - just like our whole experience. Im trying to think of something they can improve on, but I really cant! As for desert - how do they make that cheesecake topping???!!! Came away truely happy, full and smiley. Talked about it and recommended it heaps just in the past couple of days. We will definately be returning to Babacoa very soon - have eyed up the burger all ready! Fancy trying one of their bird cage type seating areas which look great. Couple of moany people next to us that just needed to get a life and not order something when you know you have a dairy allergy - cant believe they gave you a fresh meal just like that! You werent even grateful. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. xxx”
