Bar Solo is featured in these Guides:

Welcome. A word we like rather a lot here at Solobar. You see, we have occupied this bustling corner of Inverness Street for over a decade now, we have quietly been perfecting our welcoming formula of comfortable, stylish surroundings, classic drinks and good quality dining at a reasonable price. Over the years we’ve learned a few things about the ideal local: it should be warm, laid back, and good looking. Sounds like perfect company.

Solo on Inverness Street, NW1, formerly known as Bar Solo, is undergoing an evolution, designed to splash a lick of gloss to Camden's more grungy reputation. With a culture of supper clubs growing among London's discerning night-owls, the chic revamp, follows the latest enhancements to the area. A popular haunt for years, it still hasn't lost its soul.

Once an infamous underground haunt, it now injects a more New York style late night scene, to one of Britain's most celebrated music epicentres, and has recently attracted Samuel L Jackson and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The upstairs restaurant serves Mediterranean influenced food from 8am until late, assuring late-night appetites are catered for, while other nearby venues may have closed for the night. All dishes are created by Consultant Chef Andrew McIntosh (Afro Caribbean chef of year 2001 and most recently Senior Chef at Chez Gerard and before that L’escargot). Lunchtime and evening dishes include Trio of Oysters (Natural, Kilpatrick and Florentine), Baked Rump of Lamb with ratatouille and prune sauce and Broad Bean and Sorrel Risotto. You can tuck into an array of breakfasts, lunch and late-night supper menus, so visitors are kept well-fed throughout the day, with an average two courses and half a bottle of wine coming in at £25 per head.

Whilst Under Solo basement cocktail lounge/jazz and soul bar, opens at 5pm every day and serves up cocktails, grazing food and a respected eclectic music selection including jazz, soul and funk. Plus an exciting schedule of live acts and events with musicians such as Amy Winehouse, Graham Coxon and pianist Cliff Slapper. Under Solo exudes the feel of a private bar, but without the subscription charges or pretension. The demure ambience imbibes late-night revelers with a seemingly endless flow of cocktails, devised by Manager Steve Wilmot. You'll find variations on the classics such as the Passion Fruit Cosmopolitan and Moroccan Caprihinia, plus house specials such as Tequila Mockingbird and Thailander.

The bar's boutique-style design comprises candlelit booths around a compact stage, establishing an intimate surrounding, and paving to introduction of a thrill-packed bill of cabaret, with late night events, including a much-anticipated night of Karaoke Unplugged, where guests sing with real musicians from well known bands, setting a new trend in late-night entertainment.

“I went to Bar Solo for a bite to eat, and did manage to catch some of the live jazz that was being played. I am gutted that I had to catch my train home and couldnt stay till the end! The food was superb and the jazz was fantastic! Next time you are in Camden, go to Inverness Street! You wont be disappointed!”

“I went to Bar solo with two friends last week. We had a great night out. The food was delicious. I had a chicken and mushroom in creamy sauce on soda bread to start, will go back just for that! Then a whole sea bass with veg. My friends food was also great. There was a live mellow jazz band playing with three different singers over the evening. We had just gone to eat but stayed to the end, it was really good fun. Everybody, waiters, musicians were all very friendly. I woudl definitely recommend it, good affordable place to take a date! :-)”

“I saw lots of press about how this place had 're-launched' and decided to take a peek. What a waste of a precious evening! I hear the food is good but I'm afraid I felt too sick after a couple of cocktails (??) to stay for dinner. One tasted like washing up liquid, the other like a pond?! The design didn't help, who ever decided the 90's metalic look was due a come back needs to stop taking the pills - unless they really did give it to a care scheme as a charitable project then I apologise. Lastly I have to make mention of the state of the toilets - these it seems missed the wonderous make over. Oh and avoiding the crack dealers on the street on the way in and out of the place added to the whole experience!”

“New menu is great My seabass was superb, the wine was reasonable value and service so attentive and personal. We will definitely go back!!!”

“this food should be outlawed under the geneva convention - the australian waitress seemed to think she was serving in some outback bar full of rednecks - the chef has no concept of flavour or hygiene and I would strongly advise donating to charity rather than spending here.”

Loved

"Who doesnt love The Clapham Grand? It offers fun clubbing in such a beautiful venue, its an old theater and still has lots of orginal features. Music is really commecial, sometimes cheesy but where else..." Which venue is this?

Hated

"I completely agree with this review. I went to Primo recently and although it offered exquisite food, there was no real atmosphere. It's a big, bright restaurant and it should've been full of people..." Which venue is this?
