Upstairs Bar and Restaurant Description
Book a table at Upstairs Bar and Restaurant
Opened to rare reviews in December 2005, Upstairs is the brainchild of 3 french food passionates. Philippe Castaing and Stephanie Mercier were already running their eponymous Brixton Coffee Shop Opus when they met Romain Vrinat, then manager of the no less famous chiswick restaurant 'La Trompette'.
Stephanie and Philippe were to oversee the design and transformation of a once derelict flat into a bijoux bar and restaurant while Romain would bring his front of house expertise.
What about the food? The missing link would be Daniel Budden, trained in classical French and English cuisine, think Turners, Claridges, La Trompette. A real gem working on a short and simple menu, making most of the seasonal fare.

“Upstairs is a Fantastic little place... only room for 20 or so covers so ensure you book if Fri / Sat. Short menu with 3 choices per course plus specials for each course. Unfortuantely the Cote de Beouf special had gone by the time we started to order at 21:45 or so... but the Fois Gras & Pate starter was superb, as was my fiancee's artichoke salad. Mains of Sea Bream and Pork Fillet in Mustard were great - decent portion sizes. Dessert we shared, a wonderfully creamy pannacotta and then a plate of full-on cheese... one was such a beast I couldn't finish it. Great cocktails, great wine menu - The Trinity Hill red is a personal fave and hard to come by. Well worth 5 out of 5 - Value was great £135 for two people for three courses each, plus cocktails, plus two decent bottles of wine and aperetifs... Great service, knowledgable staff, it looks cool and all in all just knocks the socks off anything nearby. They even offered to source me a crate of the elusive Trinity Hill if I wanted. Now that's what you need in your neighbourhood restuarant!”
