It's common knowledge that the London 2012 Olympic Games begins on Friday 27th July, and with it come thousands of spectators and athletes from all the countries of the world. A small contingent from Denmark are using the opportunity to enlighten both Londoners and foreign guests alike about the Danish way of life. From 27th July to 12th August, VisitDenmark are providing a showcase of Danish food, drink, and culture in London's St Katharine Docks near the Tower of London.

‘IMAGINATION– Discover the Danish Spirit' kicks off with a 3-day food event from 27th-29th July, no doubt playing on the fact that Denmark has been home of the World's Best Restaurant, Noma in Copenhagen, for three consecutive years, headed by last year's World's Best Chef, René Redzepi.

Redzepi himself will be also providing London with a short term treat from 28th July to 6th August. His “A Taste of Noma at Claridge's" sold out pop-up restaurant will appear in Mayfair.

At ‘IMAGINATION– Discover the Danish Spirit', 9 chefs from Michelin restaurants in Denmark will demonstrate how to make the best sausages, Danish smørrebrød (open sandwiches) and other Nordic samples.

There will also be cooking shows twice a day, featuring a sustainable focus, and free tastings of the traditional “stegt flæsk" (fried pork), Danish hot dogs, Danish herring, Danish organic juices and lemonades, and Danish sugary goodness. But, hmmm, Danish bacon, right?

In additions to the food and drink days, bloodthirsty Danish Vikings will appear from 6th-8th August in a Viking ship, and from 9th-12th August Danish fashion and design will be the focus. Plus, Danish TV 2 will be broadcasting the Olympics live on an outdoor screen.

For those with a hunger for Danish food and drink throughout London, Madsen restaurant in Kensington and Nordic Bar in Fitzrovia are worth discovering.
